Bobcats Advance To District Nine Class-A Volleyball Semifinals With Straight Set Victory Over Terrors

The Clarion Bobcats downed homestanding Otto-Eldred 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18), in their District Nine Class-A Volleyball quarterfinal on Thursday (October 28th). With the win the Cats advance to the semifinals, visiting Oswayo Valley, on Tuesday (November 1st). The match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

Down by one, in the first set, at 10-9, Aryana Girvan delivered on a kill to break serve and followed with three service points of her own including two aces. After the Terrors regained service Girvan followed with another kill, to lead 13-11.

The Bobcats led by just one point as late as 20-19, but they went on a 5-1 run to finish out the set, with Hadlee Campbell breaking serve with a kill and following with two service points, including an ace, Girvan getting a kill to break service again and Bri Pierce getting the final service point, with Taylor Alston on the kill.

Girvan had seven kills in the set, with Campbell and Alston collecting two apiece.

The second set saw Campbell registering six service points. She had a kill that end a four point Terrors’ run, to tie the score at 8-all, then followed with three points from the line.

The Bobcats had a seemingly insurmountable lead at 21-16, but Otto-Eldred went on a six point run to lead 22-21. But Campbell had a kill to break serve and then served the final three points, including two aces, for a 25-22 Clarion win.

Girvan had eight kills in the set.

The third set saw Pierce with four service points, Girvan with six, including four straight at one point. Campbell had two, both aces, and Alston finished the set and match, with the final two points. The last one, with Adia Needham getting the kill.

Grace Ochs also had a service point in the set an Girvan had another five kills.

Girvan and Campbell both had big all-around matches. Girvan registered 20 kills, 8 points (3 aces) and eight digs, while Campbell had 13 points (6 aces), 6 kills, 11 digs and a block.

Grace Ochs dished out 32 assists, scored 3 points, and delivered 6 digs and a block. Pierce scored 8 points, and had 12 digs and an assist. Alston recorded 5 points (1 ace), 3 kills, 4 digs and a block. Adia Needham had 4 points, 4 kills and a dig.

Marley Kline had two kills and Sophie Babingtion had a dig.

Coach Shari Campbell shared, “I am proud of this team on a quarter finals win on the road. This team has had some experience being on the road during the regular season and I like seeing them feeling prepared to take on any opponent, in any gym, to achieve their goals.
