Slippery Rock University volleyball standout Erika Selfridge, a 5′-6″ sophomore outside hitter, has been named to the 2022 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division Team. The announcement was released by the PSAC, on Thursday, as they revealed their postseason awards.

Erica was a Pennsylvania State Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) Class-A All-Stater for Coach Shari Campbell’s Clarion Area Bobcats’ 2020 PIAA State Championship Squad, after transferring from Bainbridge-Guilford High School in New York State, which are also Bobcats and was a member of the 2017 and 2018 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) State Class D champions, coached by her mother Tami Selfridge. She was named to the New York Volleyball Coaches Association’s (NYVCA) All-State Team for three seasons, 2017-2019. Erica was named to the NYSPHSAA Class D All-Tournament Team in both 2017 and 2018.

Erica, who earned second team all-conference recognition, is the first SRU Volleyball player to be named all-conference since 2018 and the the Rock’s first outside hitter to be selected since 2012.

SRU Coach Laureen Lokash had this to say about her newest all-conference selectee, “Erica is truly deserving of the honor she received.  She is one of the hardest working players in the gym; always asking for more reps.  She not only is an outstanding outside hitter but also stepped in as our setter for the last 5 matches of the season when one of our other setters broke her thumb.  Though she only stands about 5’6, she plays much bigger and is continually working to improve her game.”

Erica’s all-conference selection is attested to by some outstanding numbers. She started all thirty of of the Rocks’ matches, finishing with 275 kills (.181 attack percentage), 347 digs, 33 aces and twenty-seven blocks.

Erica also led Slippery Rock in total kills and kills per set (2.62), was second in aces, and was third in digs attack percentage. Erica was ninth in kills per set and seventh in digs per set (3.30), in the PSAC West.

Erica had this to say about receiving this fine honor, “I would like to say how thankful I am for this recognition and that I would not have been able to receive this honor without my teammates. Without the experiences I’ve had in the past, I would not be where I am today.”

Tami Selfridge As her mom and BG coach I would say … We are so proud of Erica and all she has achieved both on and off the court at Slippery Rock.

Years ago she wanted to be a hitter and as her mom, and coach, I advised her to stick with setting since she wasn’t one of the taller girls on the team and as she went to higher levels of competition, the girls were only going to get taller. But she stuck with it and proved me wrong.

“Erica is a prime example of where there is passion and desire, you can find a way. She has proven herself to be a asset to the Rock offense and when they needed a setter at the end of the season, those skills also proved valuable.

“I definitely think the honor of being named to this year’s All-PSAC team is well deserved!”

And Coach Campbell shared, “Congratulations to Erica on a well deserved honor.

“She is such a great all around player who changes the game in such a positive way when she is on the court.”

(Congratulations Erica!!!! You make us Clarion Proud!!!! Thank you SRU Athletics for the photos!!)
