Bobcat Golfers Capture Fifth Place At Prestigious Tam O’Shanter Invitational

The Clarion Area Bobcat Golfers placed fifth, carding a 336, in the prestigious 2023 Tam O’Shanter High School Invitational in Hermitage on Tuesday, September 26th.

The Bobcats were led by Kameron Kerle, who shot a 77, which was good for fifth place in the individual scoring, just five strokes behind medalist Jordan Kelly of Elwood City, who shot a 72. The others in the top five included: Cathedral Prep’s Connor Laird (75), Meadville’s Alex Burgess (75) and Wilmington’s Santino Tuscano (76)

The Tam O’Shanter High School Invitational is the oldest and largest high school tournament in the United States.

This year’s tournament consisted of 152 golfers, from 32 teams schools which compete in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (PIAA) Districts Seven (WPIAL), Nine and Ten.

The format used had teams with five golfers and the top four scores on each team were used to determine their score.

The scores of the other Clarion Area golfers were: James Keenan (84), Devon Lauer (86), Tanner Miller (89) and Lucas Mitrosky (93).

Trophies were given to the Top Ten individuals.

The Bobcats finished just eight strokes off of Meadville’s winning 328 score. They tied with in scoring with Cathedral Prep, with both carding 336. But Prep took fourth and Clarion fifth due to a tiebreaker.

The Teams competing (and their scores) included: Meadville (328), Ellwood City (329), Moon (335), Cathedral Prep (336), Clarion Area (336), Lakeview #1 (338), Mohawk (340), Hickory (347), Grove City (349), Jamestown (353), Shenango (353), Conneaut Area (360), Lakeview #2 (361), Wilmington (362), Sharon (362), McDowell (363), Greenville (366), Cranberry (368), Oil City (371), West Middlesex (374), Laurel (375), Gen. McLane (377), Union City (379), Riverside (390), Warren (399), Saegertown (414), Sharpsville (431), Mercer (448), West Forest (449). Reynolds, Slippery Rock, and Titusville also competed but did not field full teams, so they could not be included in the standings.
