Bobcats Down Wolves In District Nine Class-A Girls’ Basketball Quarterfinal Matchup

The #4 seeded Clarion Bobcats came back from a four point deficit at the end of the third quarter, to down the homestanding North Clarion Wolves, the #3 seed, 40-37 in their District Nine Class-A Girls Basketball quarterfinal contest, on Thursday (February 23rd).

The Bobcats led 13-9 after one, but a 13-6 with a Wolves’ edge in the second, North Clarion led by three at the half, 22-19. A narrow 11-10 North Clarion edge in the third had the Wolves up 33-29 headed to the last stanza, where an 11-4 Bobcats advantage set the final.

Taylor Alston led the Cats with 13 points, including 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. Marley Kline followed with 10 points, while Natalie Durish and Lacey Lauer finished with six points. Lauer’s points came on a pair of treys. Gia Babington and Sophie Babington scored three points and two points respectively.

Lilly Homan scored a game-high twenty-four points, including three treys, while going 8-for-9 from line.

The Bobcats will play #1 seed Elk County Catholic, in a semifinal matchup at Brookville, next Wednesday (February 28th). Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Wolves will host #10 seeded Northern Potter in a consolation game, next Monday (February 26th).

Bobcats’ Head Coach Sam Heeter shared, “Last night the girls played incredibly hard from the very beginning. I had a lot of girls step up to the big moment and take advantage of the opportunity we had in front of us. This is a big win for us and we’re looking forward to playing ECC on Wednesday night.”
