Bobcats Down Warriors In Four Sets In PIAA Volleyball 1A Playoff Opener

The Clarion Area Bobcats downed the visiting Eden Academy Warriors in four sets (13-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23) in the PIAA State Volleyball Class 1A opening round, on Tuesday (November 4th).

Natalie Durish led the Bobcats scoring, with 14 service points (1 ace). Sophie Babington recorded 7 service points (2 aces), 4 kills and ten digs. She also had twelve assists. Coach Campbell said this about the duo, “Both Natalie Durish and Sophie Babington had great contributions from the service line and there defense was great. Natalie’s serve receive was solid throughout the entire match and that makes a big impact on the win. Sophie set the stage for the match win with a key ace during her serving run.”

Hadlee Campbell had 9 points on serve (2 aces), 14 kills and 17 digs. Coach Campbell shared, “Hadlee Campbell played an outstanding match. She contributed with some very heavy swings and her backrow defense matched those as well.”

Ali Burford registered 8 service points (1 ace), 3 kills and a dig. Marley Kline posted 15 kills, 12 digs and two points on serve. Coach Campbell mentioned this about the pair’s strong performance, “Ali Burford had a key block, ace and kill in the 4th set that were big positive momentum shifts for us. Marley Kline had a strong finish and Eden was unable to contain her attack.”

Addiwyn Campbell dished out 35 assists, gathered in 12 digs and had one kill. Coach Campbell said, “This is the best match I have seen from Addiwyn Campbell. She is working hard to grow this offense in this playoff season.”

Anna O’Toole had three service points (1 ace) and 4 digs and Alivia Diehl collected two digs.

Coach Shari Campbell was very happy with the Bobcats’ performance. “I’m very pleased with the perseverance we showed in this state regional against a very good Eden Christian Academy.”

The Bobcats will District 7 (WPIAL) second seed, Frazier at North Allegheny in Wexford, in the quarterfinals on Saturday (November 9th) 2:00 P.M.
