Boys Basketball: Bobcats Fall To Raiders And Gremlins In Overtime Games

The Clarion Bobcats Basketball team dropped two recent games in overtime. They to the Brookville Raiders, 54-45 in one overtime in the District 9 Showcase finale at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gym on Saturday (February 1st). On Monday (February 3rd), it took two overtimes for the homestanding Karns City Gremlins to down the Bobcats, by one point, 70-69.
Raiders 54 – Bobcats 45
Brookville held a 13-9 edge after one period, but the Bobcats came back with a 15-7 edge in the second, to hold a 24-20 halftime lead. Each team scored 10 points in the third and a 14-10 Bobcat advantage in the fourth sent the teams to overtime tied at 44-all, where a 10-1 Raider edge set the final.
Dylan Smail led the Bobcats scoring with fifteen points. Nathan Frederick had 10 points and Mason Burford followed with seven.
Wyatt Watterson and Quinn O’Neil had 4 points each and Derek Smail chipped in with three.
Gremlins 70 – Bobcats 69
Clarion opened the game with a 15-14 first period edge. With a 17-15 Gremlin advantage in the second, the Karns City held a 31-30 lead at the half. The Bobcats outscored the Gremlins 17-12 in the third, for a 47-43 lead, but with an 11-7 Karns City advantage in the fourth, the teams headed to overtime knotted up at 54. The first overtime ended with the teams tied again, at 61, but a 9-8 Gremlins’ edge in the second overtime, gave Karns City the win.
Mason Burford led the Bobcats’ scoring with twenty-two points. Dylan Smail had sixteen. Derek Smail and Wyatt Watterson had 8 points apiece, while Nathan Frederick had seven.
Parker Miller and Quinn O’Neill both scored 3 points, and Treyvan Hooks scored two.
Shane Peters led the Gremlins with thirty-four points and Cole Johnston had eighteen.
The Bobcats are scheduled to travel to Cranberry on Wednesday (February 5th).
