Basketball Roundup: Bobcat Boys Down VC, Girls Fall To DCC

Both Clarion Area Basketball Teams were on the road on Tuesday (February 8th). The Bobcat Boys came away with a 53-18 victory over the Venango Catholic Vikings, while the Girls fell to the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic, 36-29.

Boys Contest

Christian Simko led the way with a game-high twenty-three points. Derek Smail had 8 points and Devon Lauer followed with seven.

The Bobcats led 17-4 after one and with both teams collecting 9 points in the second, Clarion led 26-13 at the half. A 14-7 Bobcat edge in the third, had the Cats leading 40-17 going into the last period, where a 13-1 Clarion advantage set the final.

Also contributing on the scoreboard for the Bobcats were Ryan Alston and Dawson Smail, with four apiece, and Aidan Quinn who each scored two points.

Jake Liederbauch led the Vikings with six points.

Girls Contest

Jordan Best and Sophie Babington each scored in double-figures, with 12 and 10 points respectively. Payton Simko added 4 points and Taylor Alston contributed three.

The Cardinals led 14-9 after one. The teams each posted 6 points in the second, giving DCC a 20-15 halftime lead. A 10-7 DuBois Catholic edge in the third, had them up by eight, 30-22 heading to the last stanza, where a 7-6 Bobcat edge set the final.

DCC was led by Lexi Berta’s twelve points.

The Clarion Girls are scheduled to host Venango Catholic tonight, Wednsday (February 9th) at 6:00PM, while the Clarion Boys will host Forest Area on Thursday (February 9th), at 7:30PM.
