Clarion Area Boys Basketball Boosters Hold Banquet To Honor 2021-2022 Bobcats

The Clarion Area Boys Basketball Boosters held a banquet honoring this past season’s squad, on Saturday evening, March 26th at the social hall at Trinity Point Church of God.

Boys Basketball Committee Chairman Dave Smail welcomed everyone to the festivities. Brian Burford followed with the Blessing. Then everyone enjoyed the carry-in meal.

Junior Varsity Coach Tom Lewis shared about the JV season, beginning by thanking parents, the administration and the players. He described the season as one of “Great” growth. Highlighting the Junior Varsity’s commitment to defense, Coach Lewis mentioned that they had twenty-four quarters where they gave up five points or less and five quarters where they gave up zero points.

Coach Lewis said he was proud to know “these guys” and mentioned that he was looking forward to the future.

Head Coach Scott Fox then thanked those in attendance, Coaches Tom and Ryan, the Boosters, parents, the Kriebels’ for keeping the books, and the players.

He shared that the team had a good season and made good adjustments, with the loss of several key players from the 2020-2021 District Nine Championship team. Coach Fox mentioned that the team went 15-12 this season, made it to the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC) semifinal game, were 8-2 in the KSAC North and finished sixth (in Class-A) in District Nine.

Coach Fox highlighted some individual players scoring. The team was led by Christian Simko’s 17.7 points per game, which led the KSAC; he was named to the All-KSAC Second Team. The coaches present. Devon Lauer averaged 10.2 points per game and hit on seventy-five percent of his free-throw attempts. Dawson Smail and Gabe Simko were both at around eight points per game, with Gabe completing seventy-six percent from the foul line.

The players were awarded their letters and/or pins.

The coaches presented gifts to the seniors: Christian Simko, Ryan Alston and Aidan Quinn (who wasn’t in attendance), which included a nice action shot photo plaque.

Dave Smail then presented the coaches with presents from the Booster Club.

He thanked the players, the parents for helping the team and for helping the Boosters and said “We’re a basketball family.”

Coach Fox and Coach Lewis then shared some of the team’s upcoming off-season itinerary. Dave Smail then dismissed the gathering.
